Disabilities Education Act - The process to reauthorize the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act has begun with the introduction of H.R. 1350 in the House of Representatives. The bill represents a significant set-back to the rights of children with disabilities. Rights and procedures that have been commonplace for over two decades are at risk of being eliminated or substantially diminished. If this bill becomes law, we will no longer have a right to short-term objectives in the IEP and will be pressured to accept three-year IEPs under the guise of “paperwork reduction.” Read the bill and decide for yourself. We would encourage you to contact your legislators and advise them of your concerns. For your convenience, information regarding the bill can be located at http://edworkforce.house.gov.
